Dragons!

Today's post is about a creature no fantasy novel would be complete without: dragons! All in all, they are about what you would expect: large, winged, fire-breathing reptiles. There are a few different species of dragons in this world, but only two feature in my story.

The first are the blue dragons, described in the book as "great, lizard like beasts with shake-necks and bat wings, clinging to the mountain sides and peering down." They have sapphire-blue scales and like to bathe in the lava of their home volcanoes. They tend to mind their own business, but that does not mean they are ignorant of the affairs of other creatures. They are aware of the unicorns' violent actions in previous years and take some convincing when the unicorns plead with them for aid.

The second specious are gold dragons, a subspecies of the blue dragons that Erron created. Erron bred them to have an explosive fire, and hopes to use them to reach the unicorns' otherwise-unattainable hiding place. Because both gold and blue dragons have scales that can only be penetrated by dragon claws (or the explosions caused by the golds' fire), only the blue dragons stand a chance against them.

(Yes, I drew the following picture with a black pencil, but it's supposed to be a sketch of a blue dragon :) )
